Do you need DTP work after translation? Working with DTP in translation is different from typical document editing design, which can lead to the following issues: 1) Sentence Length: This is the part that has the greatest impact. Sentence length may vary after translation. For example, if the original text is in English, translation into another language may increase the length of the text. This is commonly referred to as text expansion, and translation is a bit more complicated than collapsing text.



If the text is too long, the layout of the entire design is bound to be distorted. In most cases, the DTP team can make adjustments, but if there is no room in the original design itself, we will ask the translator again to reduce the text without changing the meaning. 2) Font: Fonts are a very important part of the visual element. However, many fonts do not support fonts for different languages. For example, even relatively similar languages, such as English, French, and Spanish, have different special characters, limiting common fonts.

So, when creating multilingual documents, editorial designers find and apply similar fonts for each language. 3) Localization: Localization is the creation of content to suit the language and culture of the target country. Consumers viewing translated content want to tailor content to consumers in their country. For consumers, it is important that a company or brand cares about them.

In translation, DTP is also looking at the cultural aspect of the country. It should be designed so that it can be easily viewed by local consumers in accordance with the design of documents they see on a daily basis, such as icon display, unit display of product specifications, and natural text reading. This not only provides an ability to read and understand the language, it also gives the impression that the document was created in the local language from scratch rather than translated.
